In this paper, we classify three-locally-symmetric spaces for a connected, compact and simple Lie group. Furthermore, we give the classification of invariant Einstein metrics on these spaces

Generation of surface plasmons by electron beam excitation

    No full text
We report on the first demonstration of excitation of propagating surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) by injection of a beam of free electrons on an unstructured metal interface, providing a highly localized and intense source of plasmon waves. The plasmons were detected by a grating-assisted decoupling into light at a set of distances from the excitation point. This technique allows the high-resolution mapping of plasmon and photon emission from metal nanostructures

Transcriptional profiling of SNAI2 regulated genes in primary human keratinocytes.

Epithelial to mesenchymal transition transcription factors (EMT-TFs) such as SNAI2 have been found to be expressed endogenously in epidermal stem and progenitor cells and downregulated upon differentiation. The presence of SNAI2 in progenitor cells is necessary to repress the expression of differentiation genes by binding directly to their promoters. SNAI2 is downregulated upon differentiation which allows expression of differentiation genes. Furthermore overexpression of SNAI2 can block the differentiation process suggesting that the levels of SNAI2 are crucial to epidermal cell fate decisions. To address on a genome wide level the genes that are impacted by changing the levels of SNAI2, we performed microarray analysis on SNAI2 knockdown and overexpressing epidermal progenitor cells. Here we provide a detailed methods and analysis on these microarray data which has been deposited in Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO): GSE55269

Exploring the Design Space of Immersive Urban Analytics

Recent years have witnessed the rapid development and wide adoption of immersive head-mounted devices, such as HTC VIVE, Oculus Rift, and Microsoft HoloLens. These immersive devices have the potential to significantly extend the methodology of urban visual analytics by providing critical 3D context information and creating a sense of presence. In this paper, we propose an theoretical model to characterize the visualizations in immersive urban analytics. Further more, based on our comprehensive and concise model, we contribute a typology of combination methods of 2D and 3D visualizations that distinguish between linked views, embedded views, and mixed views. We also propose a supporting guideline to assist users in selecting a proper view under certain circumstances by considering visual geometry and spatial distribution of the 2D and 3D visualizations. Finally, based on existing works, possible future research opportunities are explored and discussed.Comment: 23 pages,11 figure

MicroRNA410 Inhibits Pulmonary Vascular Remodeling via Regulation of Nicotinamide Phosphoribosyltransferase

Nicotinamide phosphoribosyltransferase (NAMPT) upregulation in human pulmonary artery endothelial cells (hPAECs) is associated with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) progression and pulmonary vascular remodeling. The underlying mechanisms regulating NAMPT expression are still not clear. In this study, we aimed to study the regulation of NAMPT expression by microRNA410 (miR410) in hPAECs and explore the role of miR410 in the pathogenesis of experimental pulmonary hypertension. We show that miR410 targets the 3' UTR of NAMPT and that, concomitant with NAMPT upregulation, miR410 is downregulated in lungs of mice exposed to hypoxia-induced pulmonary hypertension (HPH). Our results also demonstrate that miR410 directly inhibits NAMPT expression. Overexpression of miR410 in hPAECs inhibits basal and VEGF-induced proliferation, migration and promotes apoptosis of hPAECs, while miR410 inhibition via antagomirs has the opposite effect. Finally, administration of miR410 mimics in vivo attenuated induction of NAMPT in PAECs and prevented the development of HPH in mice. Our results highlight the role of miR410 in the regulation of NAMPT expression in hPAECs and show that miR410 plays a potential role in PAH pathobiology by targeting a modulator of pulmonary vascular remodeling
